Tips to Prevent Acne Scarring
Prevent Acne Now, Stop Acne Scarring Later
If you suffer from acne, there is a huge chance that you will have to deal with acne scars down in the future. While there are many acne scar treatments you can use to minimize the scars — or even eliminate them – the old adage “the best defense is a good offense” holds true here when dealing with acne. If you prevent your acne scars from forming, you won’t have to deal with the scars in the future. Yes you can treat them, but said treatments may or not be effective as you hope and they are costly, very costly.
It should be clear that if you have acne scars you are going to either have to wait for them to clear up on their own – yes, most mild acne scars will disappear in a year, unless you have serious acne scarring caused by cystic acne – or pursue surgical acne scar treatments to remove them. If you notice a scar, try giving it some time to heal (6 months to a year). You can put on Vitamin E, which is supposed to help reduce mild scarring.
But by far, the best acne scar “remedy” is to actually prevent the acne from forming in the first place. What can you do? You can often prevent or reduce acne outbreaks with a combination of healthy eating, proper exercise, proper facial hygiene, not picking or popping pimples, and using acne medications.
Unfortunately, most people lack the discipline to perform all but the last suggestion (using acne medication) since a good deal of effort and work is involved. The combination of all these “efforts” is what I like to call “preventative acne treatments.”
For acne medications, there are various types you can use. Some of the most effective acne medications utilize antibiotics as an active ingredient to kill the P .acnes bacteria – the type of bacteria that lives in your pores and causes the acne outbreaks. The downside to these antibiotic treatments is that there are unpleasant side effects.
You can consider using topical acne medications to treat acne as an alternative. Now, these are generally not as effective as the antibiotic acne medications (they don’t have antibiotics in them), but there are no side effects to deal with, and you don’t need a prescription. These topical acne medications include products such as Benzoyl Peroxide, Tea Tree oil, sulfur, etc.
Without a doubt, there are a huge number of acne treatments to consider for both acne prevention and acne scar removal. However, you should do everything in your power to prevent the formation of acne so you don’t’ have to deal with treating your acne scars. The best acne prevention is a combination of diet, facial hygiene, and acne medications (oral and topical).
